The Schoolgirl Losing Her Locks for Charity

Ruddington schoolgirl Lily-Jean Morales is cutting her luscious long hair for a good cause this Saturday (2nd April) whilst also raising funds to make her long brown locks into a wig for a child who has lost their hair to cancer or other medical conditions.

Seven-year-old Lily-Jean was inspired to donate her own hair after learning about the charity Little Princess Trust, from her cousin. She reveals: “My cousin James had short hair before Coronavirus, and now it is quite long, but my hair was already longer. Last summer my hair made me really hot so I don’t want long hair this summer – and a little girl or boy would like my hair.”

Ahead of having her hair cut at Ruddington salon Hare & Rabbit, Lily-Jean will be at the Ruddington Village Market this Saturday morning with her own stall selling raffle tickets. These are to win 1 of 3 Easter Egg hampers of eggs donated by over 20 Ruddington businesses, a treasure map game and a guess the number of sweets in the jar game.  The raffle tickets – costing £1 – are also available until this Friday (April 1st) from The Bottle Top, The Pet Pantry, Phoenix Flowers, The White Horse and Artisan Hair and Beauty in Ruddington.

Lily-Jean adds: “I want to raise £550 which is the cost to turn my hair into a wig”. The wig will then be given to a child for free to help restore their confidence and identity as they undergo their medical treatment.

Lily-Jean is aiming to raise this sum via a JustGiving page – giving sponsors the opportunity to donate more to this great cause and add gift aid to their contributions. To donate please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lily-jean.
